Privacy Policy

WANDER collects as little as possible and keeps as much as possible on your device. This Policy explains what information we process, why we process it, where it is stored, and how you can manage it.

1. Location: Used Only on Your Device

With your permission, WANDER uses your location to show where you are on the map, generate random routes and provide navigation. While navigation is in progress, the app keeps receiving your location in the background so that navigation and recording continue when your screen is locked or you switch apps. This stops as soon as navigation ends. Your exploration records (route, time, distance, duration and steps) are stored only on your device and are never uploaded to our servers. Deleting the app, or deleting a record in "Explorations", removes the corresponding data.

2. Motion & Fitness (Steps)

With your permission, WANDER reads your device's step data to count the steps for each exploration. Step counts are stored only in your exploration records on the device and are never uploaded.

3. Microphone

The microphone is used only when you choose to record a custom navigation voice (turn left, go straight, turn right). Recordings are stored on your device and are uploaded only if you choose to publish them to the community.

4. Photos

When you choose a profile picture or a navigation arrow image, the system photo picker is used. WANDER only receives the single image you select and cannot access your photo library.

5. Camera and Photos Along the Way

During navigation you can take photos, Live Photos or videos with the in-app camera. With your permission they are saved to your photo library (add-only; we cannot read your other photos), and a copy is kept on your device together with where it was taken, so your exploration records can show them by place. They are not uploaded to our servers.

6. Health (Apple Health)

With your permission, WANDER saves each exploration to Apple Health as a walking, running or cycling workout (type, start and end time, distance and route). When you use Apple Watch, it also reads heart rate and active energy to show them on the watch and save them with the workout. Health data stays on your devices and in Apple Health. It is never uploaded to our servers, used for advertising, or shared with third parties. You can view or delete it in the Health app, or turn off WANDER's access, at any time.

7. Apple Watch, Lock Screen and Dynamic Island

If you use the WANDER watch app, your iPhone and Apple Watch exchange navigation status, your exploration settings and your chosen pointer image over Apple's device-to-device connection, only between your own devices. While navigating, the Lock Screen, Dynamic Island and the watch Smart Stack show a Live Activity (next instruction, time, distance), displayed by the system on your device.

8. Maps and Route Services

Generating routes, matching the shapes and roads you draw, searching for nearby places (parks, museums and so on) and showing place names use Apple Maps services (MapKit). To do this, the coordinates of your start point, waypoints and drawn lines are sent to Apple to calculate routes and search, subject to Apple's privacy policy. These requests do not go through our servers.

9. Anonymous Device Identifier

To provide community features, the app generates a random anonymous identifier (UUID) in this device's Keychain and sends it with requests to our servers to recognize "the content and likes from this device". It does not contain your name, phone number or device hardware information, and it is not used for ad tracking. We also record the app version number for compatibility and troubleshooting.

10. Public Content and Where It Is Stored

The following content is uploaded and made public: the navigation arrow images and navigation voices you publish, as well as your nickname, bio and profile picture. It is stored in Alibaba Cloud Object Storage Service (OSS) and databases, with servers located in mainland China. Other users can see and use the arrows and voices you make public, along with the author's nickname. Like and usage counts are stored in association with the anonymous device identifier.

11. Feedback

The feedback you submit, any contact details you choose to provide, and the app version number are sent to us and used solely to handle and respond to your feedback. If no network is available, your feedback is temporarily stored on the device and sent automatically once the connection is restored.

12. Notifications

Notifications are optional. If you turn them on, the app schedules a weekly reminder to head out locally on your device, without going through any server. You can turn them off at any time in "Me" or in system Settings.

13. Withdrawal and Deletion

You can take down the arrows and voices you have published at any time under "My shares"; once removed, other users can no longer see or use them. You can edit or clear your bio and change your profile picture under "Edit profile". To permanently delete all cloud data associated with your anonymous device identifier, please contact us via "Feedback". We will process your request within 15 business days after verification. You can also turn off Location, Motion, Microphone and Notification permissions at any time in system Settings; the related features will then be unavailable.

14. What We Will Never Do

We do not sell your personal information, we do not integrate third-party advertising or behavioral tracking SDKs, and we do not upload your location or exploration records to our servers. We do not share your information with third parties except as required by law.

15. Minors

Minors under the age of 14 should use the app only with the consent and in the company of a parent or guardian. Please stay safe when going out alone.

16. Policy Updates and Contact

This Policy may be updated as features change. Any update will be announced in the app along with the new effective date. If you have any questions or requests, please contact us in the app via "Me → Feedback".
